Building & Design Awards 2011 Winners Announced
Design and build quality on display as large industry attendance gather to hear the winners announced at the 2011 Building & Design Awards
At a glittering gala evening in the Four Seasons Hotel in Ballsbridge Dublin, over 220 industry professionals from the construction industry gathered to hear who the judges voted as the winners of the 2011 Building and Design awards, selected from 14 industry categories.
Big winners on the night included Robin Lee Architecture who landed the Architectural Practice of the Year Award, while Sammon Group walked away with the Contractor of the Year Award. The highly contested ‘School & Educational Building Project of the Year’ category was won by New Engineering Building, NUI Galway, designed and submitted by Taylor Architects and RMJM and BAM Building.
The 2011 Building & Design Awards had a very high profile judging panel consisting of nine highly respected industry individuals that included John Power, Director General, Engineers Ireland; Dr Louis Gunnigan, President, International Construction Project Management Association; and Professor James Horan, Dublin School of Architecture, DIT.
“These awards differ from other award ceremonies in that they are industry awards as opposed to sector awards and I believe that has been the distinguishing feature of this event as it has grown, year on year, despite the extremely difficult climate,” said Tony Cantwell, managing director of CMG, the event organisers. “CMG have committed a lot of time and resources to this project and we were delighted to see the fantastic design and building quality on display at these awards.”
That point was reiterated by Dr Louis Gunnigan, President of the International Construction Project Managers Association, during his keynote address to the hundreds who attended. “It is truly invigorating to celebrate success and achievement and remind everyone just how talented and respected Irish construction is the world over, especially at a time when the focus seems to be on negativity,” he stated.
